About Dave

Dave the London Taxi DriverDave Bromiley, the London Taxi Driver who wrote this guide, passed away in 2013. Dave was perhaps the most energetic, funny, kind, friendly and likeable person I have ever known and his friends and customers would probably all agree. Dave was one of those people you assumed would outlive you and his death took everyone by surprise. This Guide to London, which Dave began several years ago, is in my opinion one of the best written guides to anywhere. After he died we were not sure what to do with it. Obviously Dave was not in a position to take any bookings for his taxi. Should we take the site down? Should we leave it up as a sort of memorial?  We decided to keep the site up, not just as a memorial but because it is a great guide, with lots of valuable information, and because the writing is pure Dave. His humor and character is so evident in his writing that people using this as a guide are going to feel like they have a friend telling them where to go and what to do. And for those people who knew Dave as a friend or as a taxi driver, get ready to know him as a writer, historian, social critic, and as you already know, the type of person you would most like to have a beer with. Or several.- Matt Barrett
